Joe Palmer had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Augsburg used a big second half to down St. Scholastica 83-68 in MIAC men’s basketball Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, before 172 in Minneapolis.
Rayquan Moore scored 15 points off the bench and Jack Sorenson chipped in 11 points for the Auggies (4-1 overall, 3-0 MIAC), who outscored CSS 42-30 in the second half to pull away from a 41-38 halftime lead.
Nick Carlson of Canyon (20 points), Jack Silgen (16) and Duluth East grad Isiah Hendrickson (12) scored in double figures for the Saints (1-3, 0-2), who were outshot 47.6% to 42.4% and had 17 turnovers.
CSS will try to notch the program’s first MIAC win at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, when the Saints host St. Mary’s at Reif Gymnasium.
Jen Masello scored 23 points while filling up the stat sheet and Augsburg raced to a 30-7 first-quarter lead en route to an 82-55 victory in MIAC women’s action before 82 at Reif Gymnasium.
Masello finished with 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks while Anja Smith added 18 and five rebounds off the bench for the Auggies (3-3 overall, 3-0 MIAC).
Augsburg had a 46-26 advantage in points in the paint, 18-4 advantage in fastbreak points and forced 23 turnovers as the Auggies have won the last nine meetings with the Saints.
Miranda Broberg was the lone player to score in double figures with 13 points for CSS (0-5, 0-3) and has now scored in double figures in each of the first five games.
The Saints continue MIAC action at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, when they host St. Mary’s.
